Shooting involving officers near Parlier High School under investigation, FCSO says
A total of four law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting.
PARLIER, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting involving multiple law enforcement officers in Parlier.
Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni says around 10:10 a.m. Saturday, shots were fired at a Parlier police officer sitting in his patrol car in the area of Merced and H streets.
The officer located the suspect, a man believed to be in his 50s, and the vehicle he was driving. Zanoni said when the suspect was spotted he fired additional rounds, striking another Parlier patrol car.
The Parlier officer returned fire, striking the suspect's vehicle. A chase began, with a Selma Police Officer and a Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy joining in.
The chase would end 20 minutes after the initial gunfire after the suspect crashed into a fence at Parlier High School. Zanoni says the Selma Police Officer and the deputy opened fire on the suspect, striking him multiple times.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly after and taken to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect's identity has not been revealed but Zanoni says he is known to law enforcement.
A firearm that was in the suspect's possession was recovered.
Zanoni says none of the law enforcement officers involved in the shooting were shot. The Selma Police officer did injure his arm but it's unclear how he was hurt.
All four officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
A basketball camp was taking place inside Parlier High School's gym when the incident occurred. None of the participants of the camp were impacted
This is the second deputy-involved shooting for the Fresno County Sheriff's Office this year.
